What are Chroma Key Video Background Plates?

Chroma key Video Background Plates are video backgrounds shot specifically to be used in your corporate, commercial, television or film productions. Shoot your talent on green screen and simply replace the green with our backgrounds. We provide the technical details to perfectly match your shot to our background. The end result is a natural, realistic looking composite that gives a flexible, budget friendly option for interviews, standups, host intros and more.

Are Your Video Background Plates Royalty Free?

Yes, they are! ProPlates Video Background Plates are royalty free, which means that when you’ve purchased and downloaded a file from ProPlates, you have a licence that lets you use it in advertising, commercials, videos, on websites, broadcast and cable TV, in films, in your work presentation, in your classroom and more. Just pay once and use the background in as many different projects as you like.

Are There Restrictions On How I Can Use ProPlates?

Yes. Giving ProPlates to someone else to use or re-selling is prohibited. There are a few other limited uses restricted by our royalty free license. To find out where and how you can not use our products, view our License Agreement. For most productions, you should be good to go though!

How Soon Will I Receive My Video Background Plates?

Immediately! Once the sale is complete, you will be provided a download link on screen and you will be emailed a link. Download the files you need and save them for future use. We can’t guarantee the download link will stay active forever, so download the files as soon as possible.

Why Am I Transfered To Another Site When I Click ‘Buy Now’?

ProPlates sells our Video Background Plate downloads through a 3rd party site called Gumroad.com. Why? Because we want to focus on creating great content, not reinventing the wheel on digital security and file serving. Gumroad provides us secure credit card processing and reliable, high speed downloading of our products. We’d prefer to let these guys do what they do best for us, while we do what we do best for you.

What Is The Acquisition Format?

All ProPlates Video Backgrounds are capture at 1920×1080, 4k or 5k in a high bitrate format (usually DNxHD220, ProRes422HQ, REDCODE or RAW). Sometimes we make minor enhancements such as color corrections or noise reduction before encoding to Photo-JPEG to be downloaded by our users. Files that are available to be downloaded as DNxHD or ProRes have not been up-scaled from lower resolution or lower bit-rate sources.

Why does the clip length vary?

In a single product, the clip lengths will be relatively the same, but in some cases they may vary be a second or two. This is because, we trim the Photo JPEG compressed files to be an exact length, but in some cases DNxHD or ProRes files will be uploaded directly without editing. You’re getting the raw camera file to maintain the best level of quality available, but the timing of each clip may vary slightly.

Length of the clips vary between products based on the content of the clip. An interior clip with no background movement can be seamlessly looped, so offering a short file that you can continuously loop saves file size and download time. Clips with moving backgrounds, such as a city street, may require additional editing to get a seamless loop or not be loopable at all, so we provide a longer duration for you.

Do you offer different frame rates?

Each background plate is currently only available at the fps is was shot at. That doesn’t mean you can’t use ProPlates in your production if you’re project is a different frame rate! Conforming our 29.97p backgrounds to 25 or 24 fps will reduce the speed by 20% at the most and minimally impact the look of the plate. In most background plates there will be no observable difference, with the exception of the clip being about 20% longer (which is a good thing most of the time).

Can I return a video background file and get a refund?

Once you have purchased and downloaded a video background file, ProPlates cannot offer a refund unless there is a technical error with the product that we can confirm.
